GETTING MARRIED? |
If you are getting married and are thinking about having your wedding at St. Nicolas the following information is for you!
St. Nicolas is set in the heart of the picturesque village of Taplow in South Buckinghamshire between Maidenhead to the West and Slough to the East. Even though it is close to the A4, M4 and the Western Region main line from Paddington it retains a village atmosphere and has many historic buildings. The village is now entirely residential, the original shops having been converted to dwellings, the only remaining “public” buildings, the Oak and Saw pub, the village Church of England, School and St. Nicolas Church, surround the large green. As you can see from the photographs on the Pictures Page the church faces the green across the old High Street and makes an ideal setting for wedding gatherings.
The church itself was finished in the early years of the 20th century so it is quite modern in construction but retains a traditional style. It’s west door is easily accessible, via the lych gate, from arriving vehicles down the High Street and this area makes an ideal setting for photographs after the ceremony. With judicial use of bollards to prevent parking and brooms to clear the leaves, we make sure wedding parties arrive in style and with clean shoes!
St. Nicolas is a large church and will seat 236 easily and 300 at a push! The central nave will seat 159 and has no restrictions on viewing. The North and South aisle will seat about another 77, with the normal arrangement, with a very few positions having some restriction of view. Normal available maximum seats is 260 plus 12 for the Lady Chapel. At special services and functions (Remembrance Sunday in particular) we can borrow extra chairs from the school. You can find pictures of the inside of the church on the Pictures page of this site. We are are glad to say that the church now has its own toilet facilities, so guests arriving from long distances do not have to sit with their legs crossed!
We have a traditional pipe organ and a choir at your disposal and also offer an “in house” flower arranging service by our dedicated band of skilled ladies. For contacts see below.
In recent years we have attracted wedding parties that have planned a reception at Clivedon, the grand estate of the Astors and the infamous location that sparked the Profumo scandal in the 1960s, which is now one of the most luxurious hotels in the U.K. This lies in the parish of Taplow approximately three miles from the church.

INFORMATION TO HELP YOU PLAN YOUR WEDDING AT ST.NICOLAS |
Conditions
If you are resident in the parish of Taplow you have
the right to be married at St. Nicolas Church. If you are not a resident in
a parish you need to be on the Church Electoral roll for at least 6 months
before you can marry. To qualify for the Electoral roll you must simply attend
Church reasonably regularly. You can apply (by filling out a form) to be placed
on the roll immediately but after this you must show that you are attending
Sunday services as often as you can. Don't let this put you off if you are
not used to going to Church! You will be warmly welcomed and we understand
that for a lot of people it is a new experience. You can be as involved (or
uninvolved!) as you like, just turn up on Sunday at 10.25am! Tell one of the
people giving out books (a Sidesman or Churchwarden) and they will look after
you, coffee after too!

Stationary
You
may be interested to use a drawing of St Nicolas for your wedding stationary.

If
you would like to use the drawing we ask for a donation of £10 to cover
the cost of copying and if required postage. Any remainder, after costs, will
go to St. Nicolas church fabric funds. Of course if you feel you would like
to give more to help support the church it would be most welcome, it costs
£800 a week to maintain!
The drawing can be supplied as a good quality photocopy on white paper at A4 size. It can then be reduced by your printing contractor to suit any size of your stationary. It can also be supplied in most computer formats.
The drawing is by Keith Thomas, a member of St. Nicolas, who grants permission for its use to raise funds for the Church but not for any other commercial use or profit making.
